NOVEMBER 2020  EDITION

  We Are REACHing For Success!  

The Highline Academy community has been resilient amidst changes due to COVID-19. Students and staff have shown exceptional dedication to learning and creating a welcoming culture where everyone feels supported, encouraged and challenged to grow.

WELCOME TO THE
HIGHLINE TALK SHOW!

Our Emerging Bilingual students at Highline Northeast demonstrated
amazing growth on the Access test last year, and they are continuing their determination to succeed this year. 5th grade students in this group took the initiative to interview our admin members and specialists to find out more about them as individuals, and to ask questions about the 2020 school year. Students studied different news anchors to hone their interviewing and reporting techniques as a fun way to strengthen their verbal communication skills. They were so well prepared for these interviews!

NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL CEREMONY!

Our Southeast Campus has been named a National Blue Ribbon School for 2020! There will be a formal ceremony held by the Department of Education to recognize the schools selected for this prestigious award. Highline will be featured during the ceremony on Friday, November 13th at 12pm. You must register in order to receive the live stream link, which will be sent next week. Click here to register for the ceremony and join us in the celebration! Congratulations Hawks!

CAREER TALKS

We believe it is important for students to gain exposure to the many career fields that await them and to learn more about careers that seem fascinating. At Highline we seek to provide added value so that students have opportunities to learn about careers directly from professionals. Last month middle school students at our Southeast campus had guest speaker Monique Dyers, President and CEO of Ensight Energy Consulting, meet with them to discuss the field of solar energy. Students learned how solar energy works, the scale of solar energy production and projects, technical definitions and different job functions within solar energy. We look forward to providing students with more opportunities to learn about careers that might pique their interest and keep them REACHing Up!

STUDENT INTERVIEWS -
WHY WE LOVE HIGHLINE

We wanted to hear from some student leaders at Highline about their experience at our school and why being here is so special. This month Southeast campus student Seriah Washington shares her thoughts in this video. We would love to hear why you love Highline too! Send an email to
Network@HighlineAcademy.org to share your thoughts with us and let us know what we are doing well!

THANKS TO OUR PARTNERS!

Our school is stronger with the support of community partners who invest in our students and Highline's program. We wanted to thank and recognize organizations that have supported us this year:

HIGHLINE NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT THIS YEAR

COVID has impacted all of us. Due to the economic fallout of the pandemic, the state cut 5% of education funding this year. In an effort to makeup for the shortfall created by the cuts, we have launched a fundraising campaign to prevent reductions that will have major impacts to our program. This could include changes like no longer having a dedicated group of teachers to support students in remote learning. It could also result in increased class sizes.  We need your support to keep our program operations running strong and continue providing the high-quality education we have become known for. Our goal is to raise $300,000 this year to offset the shortfall. Help us reach our goal by making a gift today and asking others to support the school we love. As a way to thank you for your support, you will be entered into raffle drawings we are hosting all year long for fun prizes that have been donated to our program. We are beyond grateful to everyone who has made a gift so far! Thank you!
