NOVEMBER 2019  EDITION

Highline Academy Southeast is the recipient of the Colorado Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award for 2019!

The Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Awards are given to schools that demonstrate exceptional student growth. On the school performance framework that is used by the state to evaluate schools, these schools "exceed" expectations on the indicator related to longitudinal academic growth and "meet or exceed" expectations on the indicator related to academic growth gaps.

We are proud of our teachers and students! Their commitment makes Highline a top performing school for all to thrive. You can see Highline Academy Southeast and the other schools that were honored here.

Highline Northeast Celebrates Strong Test Results!

Our Northeast campus is seeing impressive growth this year. Nationally normed testing through the STAR Assessment shows us making rapid gains in the number of students performing at grade level from August to October.

  • Reading: In August 47% of students were on grade level, and in October this rose to 57%
  • Math: In August 47% of students were on grade level, and in October this rose to 63%

The district average is 50%, and our goal for the year is 70% of students performing at grade level or higher. To see this accelerated growth in just the first two months of session is very encouraging! Go Eagles!

It Takes More Than a Day
to Grow a Child

Students at Highline Academy are receiving personalized instruction that challenges them where they are everyday. Character development and service learning is central to our existence. The work happening in our school is equipping students with the skills, collaboration, and knowledge they need to succeed in their world today and into the future. With the help of our community, we can continue offering the wrap-around supports and rigorous academics that make our program one of the most sought after in the metro area. Thank you for showing your support of Highline Academy on CO Gives Day, where donations made to our school go even further.

Girls Crush 5K Run

3rd - 5th grade girls at our Northeast campus completed a 5k run as part of their EnREACHment group. Highline runners finished the race as early as 30 minutes ahead of other participants! The girls said doing so well in the race makes them feel like they can take on anything!

Balarat Trip

This was the 2nd year 5th graders at our Northeast campus had the privilege of venturing to Balarat. Ballart provides an opportunity for 5th grade students in DPS to “acquire knowledge, skills and values to become self-sufficient citizens" through a personalized learning experience in a 750 acre mountain environment in Jamestown, CO. Students enjoyed a variety of stimulating activities including a ropes course.

Parent Vision Nights

We are excited about the energy that has come out of our Parent Vision Nights this month. As part of our strategic plan, we are providing opportunities for parents, staff, and community members to share their thoughts on the direction of our school. There is still time to let your voice be heard - we welcome your input!

Middle School
Presents to DPS

Student Council members from our Southeast campus eloquently spoke about Highline's impact in their lives during a presentation to the DPS Board in support of the charter renewal for the Northeast campus. Highline staff, parents, Board members, and students came together on November 21st to show their support. The night ended with good news in favor of extending the charter renewal for the Northeast campus!

Design Lab

You would think you entered into a design school and not the art room! Southeast students are making drawings of shoes, cars, clothes, floor plans and more in Ms. Fronapfel's art class. They are exploring real-world applications for art disciplines when fused with their creativity and imagination.

From all of us at Highline, we thank you for being part of our community and hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!
