RETURN TO IN-PERSON LEARNING

In September we welcomed our Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Kindergarten students back to in-person learning. Students were excited to interact with their teachers and peers in person after a long awaited hiatus. Highline is following the safety guidelines and protocols outlined by the district to keep our community safe.

ANTI-RACISM WORK

While diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) education is not new to us, we continue to push ourselves to keep learning, growing, and advancing this work within our larger community. This year we began incorporating anti-racism discussions and curriculum into our morning meeting time for all grade levels. We also launched a cross-campus steering committee to identify underlying causes for a lack of equity in the workplace and to create action plans to erode them. Staff at both campuses have formed study groups to further explore selected DEI topics to support their instruction and personal growth.

VIRTUAL CHARTER ACADEMY

Highline is pleased to launch our Virtual Charter Academy for students who prefer to remain remote once in-person learning resumes for their grade level. The Virtual Academy will be led by Southeast campus principal Sarah Verni-Lau and instruction will be provided by Highline teachers.
The program will also be available for students from other local charter schools that are unable to provide a separate remote learning program for their students during in-person learning. The program will provide the high quality, standards-based instruction Highline Academy is known for, via remote instruction. Learn more about our Virtual Charter Academy on our webpage here.

STUDENT INTERVIEWS -
WHY WE LOVE HIGHLINE

We wanted to hear from some of our top students at Highline about their experience at our school and why being here is so special. This month Southeast campus student Brady Zabroski shares his thoughts in this video!

REACH AWARD WINNERS

REACH is a cornerstone of Highline's program. Though most of our learners are in remote learning, our teachers are reinforcing these values in everything students do and making REACH practical for their grade level. Each month we recognize students who have consistently demonstrated a commitment to Reaching In, Out and Up. Our Northeast campus held its first virtual REACH assembly on September 30th and it was filled with such positive energy that could be felt through the screen!
